Tama(多摩市)


Hello Kitty manhole covers / Harōkiti manhōru futa (ハローキティマンホール蓋)

A series of three designs of manhole covers which were installed in eleven locations beginning in December 2017 at various locations. The designs are: "Hello Kitty After the Rain," "Sunshower Hello Kitty," and "Road Bike Hello Kitty."

"Hello Kitty After the Rain" can be found:
Next to a parking lot south east of Tama Center Station.
Near the south west corner of Tama Central Park.
At the bottom of the stairs going into Tama Central Park at the base of the Hakusan Bridge and next to a "Sunshower Hello Kitty."

"Sunshower Hello Kitty" can be found:
North of the Keiō-Tama-Center Station at the intersection of Tokyo Prefectural Roads 156 and 158.
For south of Keiō-Tama-Center Station:
The south east end of the station at Tokyo Prefectural Road 156.
Near the street level west exit of Keiō-Tama-Center Station.
At the north west intersection next to Sanrio Puroland.
At the bottom of the stairs going into Tama Central Park at the base of the Hakusan Bridge and next to a "Hello Kitty After the Rain."
At the north west corner of Tama Central Park.

HelloKitty with Shimajirō Monument / Harōkiti to shimajirō no monyumento (ハローキティとしまじろうのモニュメント)

Twin statues in located just off Hello Kitty Street in Shimajirō Square. The internationally famous character Hello Kitty and Shimajirō from the Shima Shima Tora no Shimajirō anime series.

Sanrio Puroland (サンリオピューロランド)

Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters have long had world wide popularity so it should come as no surprise that there is a theme park with a focus on them. Character parades, photo opportunities, several theaters with stage performances, rides, as well as restaurants and shops. Of course there are character goods you can only get here. Performances change according to the time of year so consider the upcoming seasons when planning. The restaurants of course have Sanrio themed foods, there are also several gift shops.. The park opened in 1990 and is also nicknamed the Hello Kitty Theme Park. Everything is indoors spread out over four floors so no matter the weather it can be enjoyed year round. For tourists and other international visitors there is a tax-free counter. Advance tickets are available through various vendors slinked from the official Puroland website.

Tama Central Park / Tama Chūō kōen (多摩中央公園)

A sizeable park with the variety of offering for visitors who want to stroll about or rest. There are two large ponds as well as a smaller one, a botanical garden, a Japanese garden, some of the park is forested. The grounds also include Large Lawn Square a spacious lawn alongside the larger pond which also functions as a wide-area evacuation site in the event of a disaster, Play Forest, a playground designed for kids of all ages and with equipment for disabled children, the Parthenon Tama, Ochiai Hakusan Shrine, the Tama City Central Library, and the Former Tomizawa Family Home.
NOTE: The Play Forest playground area, Large Lawn Square as well as a few other locations are being renovated and are expected to reopen in April 2025.
