Tokyo Stroll Supplement: Shikinejima

This page is for locations in the Shikinejima part of Niijima Mura a village in the Ōshima Subprefecture of Tokyo. This island is not part of my book Tokyo Stroll.

Shikinejima (式根島)

ACCESS:
From Tokyo Takeshiba Pier:
High-speed jet ferry, trip lasts about three hours.
Large passenger ships, these depart at night for a voyage of about about ten hours.
From Tokyo Chofu Airport: Flights to Niijima Island: 30-40 minutes.
From Niijima Island: A ferry ride to Shikinejima is about 15 minutes


Starting in 1923 the island of Shikinejima was organized as Wakagō Village (若郷村, Wakagō Mura). In 1954 Wakagō Village and Niijimahon on the neighboring island of Niijima were merged as the present day Niijima Mura.
POPULATION: The combined population of the two islands of Niijima and Shikinejima in 2020 was 2,441
