Niijima (新島)

Official pages for each of the towns and villages of Tokyo will have sections of interest to visitors. These will likely be labeled as dealing with culture, tourism, or events.

ACCESS:
From Tokyo Takeshiba Pier:
High-speed jet ferry, trip lasts about two and a half to three and a half hours.
Large passenger ships, these depart at night for a voyage of about about eight to nine hours.
From Tokyo Chofu Airport: Flights last about: thirty five minutes.


Starting in 1923 the island of Niijima was organized as Niijima-honson (新島本村, Niijima Main Village, aka Niijimahon). In 1954 Niijimahon and Wakagō Village on the neighboring island of Shikinejima were merged as the present day Niijima Mura.
POPULATION: The combined population of the two islands of Niijima and Shikinejima in 2020 was 2,441
