This page is for locations on Izu Ōshima an island in the Ōshima Subprefecture of Tokyo. This island is not part of my book Tokyo Stroll.

Izu Ōshima (伊豆大島)

ACCESS:
From Tokyo Takeshiba Pier:
High-speed jet ferry, trip lasts about two hours.
Car ferry, these take five to seven hours.
There are two posts Motomachi Port or Okata Port, which one is used by ferries depends on the weather on that day.
From Tokyo Chofu Airport: Flights last about: 25 minutes.


HISTORY:
Archaeological excavations have found evidence of human habitation from the Jōmon period and written early Nara records mentioning the island exit. Historical records often mention eruptions of the islands active volcano. The island was completely evacuated in 1986 evacuated due to an eruption. The island came under Tokyo's administration in 1878, during the Meiji Period.
POPULATION: The population in 2020 was 7,102.
DISTANCE FROM TOKYO: Izu Ōshima is located 120 km south of Tokyo center in the Izu Shotō Island Chain
