Tochigi Prefecture / Tochigi Ken (栃木県)

The present day Tochigi Prefecture was formed in 1873 by the merger of Utsunomiya Prefecture and Tochigi Prefecture (former Shimotsuke Province). The borders of Tochigi Prefecture are Ibaraki Prefecture to the southeast, Fukushima Prefecture to the north, Gunma Prefecture to the west, and Saitama Prefecture to the south.
